Where to Eat:
5 of My Favourite
Ajaccio Restaurants
On an island heavily influenced by both France and Italy, the bar for cuisine is high—and Ajaccio restaurants deliver. Below, a few of my favourites.
Le Bistrot d’Emile
6, rue de l’Assomption, tel +33 4 95 51 00 81
This wine bar/bistro is relaxed and welcoming, with a small but well-chosen menu and of course a great selection of Corsican wines to whet your palate. Good both for aperitifs and to nibble some lonzu or for a nice casual dinner.
Le 20134
2, rue Roi de Rome, tel +33 4 95 21 50 05
Named for the postal code from the owner’s home village, when you enter this restaurant you step into a mountain village square ! Hearty, traditional dishes served with Corsican pride.
Le Bilboq (Chez Jean-Jean)
2, rue des Glacis, tel +33 4 95 51 35 48
A one-dish wonder, but what a wonder : fresh-caught langouste (spiny lobster), only open when they are in season and served is the simplest, most delicious way. Count on 80€ or more per person for the lobster alone, despite the simple setting – but pure deliciousness!
Le Pampasgiolu
15, rue de la Porta, tel +33 4 95 50 71 52
A Gault&Millau favourite, with Corsican dishes ranging from big platters to share to a “tour of the island” with dishes adapted to please visitors. Nice terrace to boot.
A Nepita
4, rue San Lazaro, tel +33 4 95 26 75 68
MUST be booked ahead. A more contemporary and creative spot, many locals’ favourite: a truly gastronomic restaurant with a sense of style. Quality ingredients prepared with imagination.
