Sneak Peek: A Venetian Skier in B.C.

B&R Guides wear many hats: expert rider, gracious host and exceptional leader among them. You can now add “published author” to the list. Venice native, B&R Guide and adventure-seeker Giacomo Fano recently published a book recounting his time traipsing British Columbia’s mountains. Below, he provides The Slow Road with a sneak peek.

The author, Giacomo Fano.

This is the story of a journey and the dream of a grown up child.

A journey across the mountains of Canada to reach the sea. A dream through the soft snow of Canada in search of a spontaneous smile. That’s hard to find elsewhere.

As with any long journey, this one also starts with a farewell and a promise. A farewell to two blue eyes. A promise, maybe even left unspoken, to return safely.

Five months of exploration, of exciting novelties and unveiled stories, snow, mountains, uphill climbs and downhill descents, skiing, ocean, silence, confusion and a little bit of physical strain.

This is my adventure.

“Five months of exploration, of exciting novelties and unveiled stories, snow, mountains, uphill climbs and downhill descents…”

The journey ends exactly five months later in the very same place it started, with the same heavy bags on the same platform.

In his new book, B&R Guide Giacomo Fano recounts his journey across the mountains of British Columbia.

It is hard to say goodbye to two blue eyes when leaving yet even harder to greet them when returning.

Greeting two blue eyes takes time and silence. Time to get to know each other once more, time to talk to each other without breaking the silence.

I have kept my promise to return.

Now it is up to them to keep their promise to try and be happy.
