4 Must-See African Experiences
When the editor of the Slow Road asked me to put together a list of my favourite experiences from my family’s recent trip to Southern and Eastern Africa, I assumed he meant my top 40 favourite experiences. Turns out I misread the e-mail; he only wanted four. Fair enough. (Editor’s Note: Your trip looks pretty amazing Brad, but 40? Really? People have things to do.)
It took some doing, but I managed to narrow it down to four must-see African experiences that I’ll never forget. Check them out in the slideshow below!
1. Watching Elephants Drink From Our Pool.
I’ve been to Africa many times and I can confirm from years of experience: Elephants are majestic animals, but they’re terrible at hide and seek.
2. The Wildebeest Migration in Tanzania.
One of the greatest shows on earth – if this isn’t on your bucket list, it should be. Each year, thousands of wildebeest follow the rain as they migrate around the country.

Start Planning3. Coffee with Meerkats in South Africa.
We woke up before dawn one morning, and I needed a coffee before setting off to spot meerkats. The giraffes were already up – apparently they’re just naturally early risers. (Don’t you hate people like that?
4. Glamping at the Singita Explore camp in Tanzania.
Adjacent to the Serengeti National Park, Singita Explore allowed us to safely and comfortably get in deep and up close the park’s wildlife, without sacrificing safety or comfort.
